Everything Important you Need to Know about the USWNT Olympic Soccer Schedule

The 2020 Olympics are finally here! A year late, but nonetheless, here! And the United States Women’s soccer team is in Tokyo preparing to take the field shortly and start their march towards Olympic gold. This tournament has been a long time coming for USWNT fans as it is the first big event the team has participated in since their World Cup victory in France in 2019.

A lot has been happening in the world since then (think a worldwide pandemic, social & racial injustice, political turmoil, climate change, you know, all that stuff) – a lot of stuff that many members of this champion squad have spoken out about and become very invested in. But as important as every single one of these issues is, I am so happy for this brief moment to have something fun, enjoyable and positive to focus on for awhile. And that is watching our US women kick butt.

Who’s ready? I’m ready. I’m so excited, I can barely sleep. Oh wait, no, that’s just the ungodly game start time keeping me up. Yes folks, its a 1:30 AM kickoff for the west coasters, and 4:30 AM if you’re over here on the east coast.

The USWNT team said it best today on Instagram “Whether you’re team No Sleep or setting ALL the alarms….”

As the 2019 World Cup Champions start their Olympic campaign this week, I wanted to make sure you were prepared and ready (especially with these cheeky game times, we don’t want you to miss anything). Here’s everything you need to know:

The US Women's official Olympic roster

Just a few weeks ago, the International Olympic Committee extended roster sizes from 18 to 22 for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in order to allow more flexibility for teams in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. While only 18 players can be rostered for each match, countries can mix and match those 18 from the full 22 and reconfigure game to game as they see fit.

Team USA players share travel & pregame preparations with fans

As the US Women’s National Team arrived in Tokyo earlier this week and has begun preparing for their first match against Sweden, they haven’t forgotten to have fun and enjoy the ride. And update their social media of course 🙂

Now that you know the who/what/when/where of the USWNT Olympic soccer schedule, you have no excuse to miss a game. And if the middle of the night kickoff time is too much for you, we know you have a record button somewhere. Just make sure you don’t accidentally come across the score before you are able to watch 🙂

Hi everyone!

I'm Jenn, a USSF C-licensed youth soccer coach, mental skills coach & founder here at Expand Your Game. I created this site because it is the site I needed when I was a soccer player.

About me: I am a former newspaper photojournalist who loves downtempo electronic music, guacamole and books of every sort. And of course soccer! On days off you can find me researching tiny farms in Portugal , tossing a frisbee for my dog, or tending to my growing collection of indoor plants.
